OCR: Even with something simple like the weather we should remember that the undulating lines on the weatherman's map no more exist in nature than the Indian's spirals, Both can give the illusion of explanation, both can be useful aids for categorizing and making predictions- like whether or not it is going to rain tomorrow or how long until spring. Both are just one symbol among many that determine the way in which a civilization interacts with the world.
